Domek dla ptaków imituje dziuplę w drzewie, w której ptaki mają możliwość złożenia jaj i wychowania wyklutych z nich piskląt, znajdują schronienie przed chłodem, wiatrem, deszczem i ostrym słońcem i mogą się bezpiecznie umościć.
Drewniany domek dla ptaków można wieszać w zasadzie przez cały rok, jednak najbardziej optymalny termin to jesień lub przedwiośnie (najpóźniej do 15 marca).
Budkę lęgową dla ptaków należy powiesić na drzewie (nie na gałęzi!) w ustronnym miejscu o średnim nasłonecznieniu, gdzie jest cicho i spokojnie. Optymalna wysokość to 3-5m tak, aby domowe zwierzęta (m.in. psy i koty) oraz inne drapieżniki nie miały do niej dostępu. Ważne jest także, aby otwór wlotowy budki nie był naprzeciwko gałęzi, na której może przysiąść np. kawka lub sroka i wybrać z niej jaja lub pisklęta.
Domek dla ptaków powinno się czyścić co najmniej raz w roku po okresie lęgowym (od października do listopada) lub na wiosnę. Zaproś do swojego ogrodu ptaki i ciesz się ich obecnością!
